Professor Peter de Voogd will deliver a lecture entitled
The Black Page. Laurence Sterne, Tristram Shandy, and the Visual
Focusing on the appearance of Sterne’s texts Professor de Voogd will briefly sketch what we know about Sterne’s involvement in the printing of his books, and about his interest in the arts and look at the ways in which he made sure he would be illustrated by others, and finally have a closer look at his experiments with the purely non-verbal, ending up with the black pages in volume one of Tristram Shandy.
